Endurance and Encouragement

Week of July 3, 2022
Prayer Requests

Dear Friends,

There's a description you may not be familiar with. In Romans 15:5, St. Paul writes of "the God of endurance and encouragement." And, oh, how caregivers need those. Need him.

You know that because you know how taking care of a loved one can include demand after demand. How, over time, a caregiver can get worn down and worn out. A word of support or an acknowledgement of its challenges can make such a difference. Like  a sip -- a chug -- of cool water on a hot, hot summer day.

Sometimes, as God often does, he gives us his gifts through the goodness and kindness of those around us. And while our first reaction might be dismiss help from others or play down their gentle words, consider this: It may be God offering those gifts to you through that person or persons.

They, and God, want to help you. They, and God, want to lift you up when the duties and obligations of caregiving have brought you down, down, down.

Yes, you want to help your loved one. But yes, truly, that helping -- especially over time -- can be really tough.

As we pray, "Help me, God!" it may be a good idea to add: "And help me recognize and accept the help you send me through others."

May the God of endurance and encouragement be with you and your loved one now and always.
