    Teaching by Example

"The family is the original cell of social life... The family is the community
in which, from childhood, one can learn moral values, begin to honor God, and
make good use of freedom. Family life is an initiation into life in society.
"The family should live in such a way that its members learn to care and
take responsibility for the young, the old, the sick, the handicapped, and the
poor."
--Catechism of the Catholic Church (Nos. 2207-8)

As a member of the "sandwich generation," caught up in your responsibilities to both an older and a younger generation, it can be easy to forget that as you serve
the older, you are teaching the younger about service.
Then, too, in the words of James 1:27: "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows..."
It's caring for the youngest and the oldest. It's what you're doing now.
