Moments of Peace and Joy
Dear Friends,
A friend of
ours who's a five-year cancer survivor was telling about
the time when he first received his diagnosis. He
recalled that,
after
the news had settled in (as much as that's possible), he
was back at work. His job took him to a remote hilltop
with a spectacular view and, he said, his thought was:
"Well, I'm not going to die today. This is really
beautiful." It was, he remembered, a good day.
Our prayer for you
over the next two weeks is that you'll have a good day,
too. A day when the presence of God seems obvious, no
matter what the future may hold. A moment, or two, when
there's joy and peace and comfort.
If you're a
caregiver or care-receiver, please know that FSJC
members are remembering you in their prayers every day.
God
bless you!

Happy News
Dear Friends,
We've had a
wonderful two weeks and not just because we spent eight
days of it vacationing on the Oregon coast. We're
happy to
report
that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is
including material on family caregiving in its Respect
Life Program from 2007-2008. The Friends of St. John the
Caregiver, YourAgingParent.com and
CatholicCaregivers.com are featured.
We want to thank
Susan Wills at the USCCB's Secretariat for Pro-Life
Activities and Jeanne Berdeaux at the Respect Life
Department of the Diocese of Venice, Fla., for making
that happen. The material (which will be mailed to
dioceses, parishes and pro-life offices a little later)
is already on-line here:
USCCB 2007-2008 Respect Life Program.
You'll
notice that the article and pamphlet are also available
in Spanish!

The other
great news is that we have four new FSJC members. We
want to welcome Marianne from Florida, Shirley from
Indiana, Cheryl from Virginia and Lynda from California.
Thank you so much, ladies, for praying for caregivers
and care-receivers!
Want to find
out more about membership? There's information
here.
God
bless you!

In the Big Apple
Dear Friends,
We want to
thank Sister Mary Elizabeth, S.V., Director of the
Family Life/Respect Life Office of the
Archdiocese of New York, for
posting
information for family caregivers. That site features
links to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops'
Respect Life
Program for 2007-2008. We've already
received several calls about the Friends of St. John the
Caregiver, CatholicCaregivers.com and
YourAgingParent.com. Thank you, Sister!

September is
just around the corner so there are new Bulletin Briefs
and Prayers of Intercession at
CatholicCaregivers.com. The topic for September's
flier is "Helping Your Loved One Deal with Losses."
(Again, all this material is free, free, free. Yes,
free. Download and print as much as you would like. The
fliers are great for bulletin inserts or as material to
be left in the vestibule or narthex.)

Please join
us in welcoming our newest member: Cathy in New York.
Please keep her, her mom and her family in your prayers.
(As a member, she's praying for caregivers and
care-receivers.)
We invite --
and encourage -- you to
become a
member, too. It's easy. No dues (because Monica says
so) and no meetings (because Bill hates meetings). The
only commitment is to agree to pray for those giving
care and those receiving it.

Would you
like to meet Monica? She'll be at the FSJC display booth
at Catholic Charities USA's annual gathering in
Cincinnati Sept. 13-16. And she'll have a table in the
exhibition hall at the National Council of Catholic
Women's convention in Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 20-23. Stop
by and say "Hello."'
God
bless you!
